Cape Town

• The Company’s Garden is the oldest cultivated garden in South Africa, established in 1652 by Jan van Riebeeck and the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Its original purpose was purely practical: to grow fresh fruits and vegetables to supply passing ships traveling between Europe and Asia, helping prevent scurvy among sailors.
• Located in the center of Cape Town, the garden was a vital part of the VOC’s refreshment station and quickly expanded into a large and productive area, complete with orchards, vineyards, and livestock pens. It laid the foundation for permanent European settlement in the region.

Bo-Kaap

Bo-Kaap, perched on the slopes of Signal Hill above central Cape Town, is one of the city’s most iconic and culturally rich neighborhoods. World of Birds
