Explore the "Cradle of Gold" - Choquequirao, on a 5-day trek through the mighty canyons above the Apurimac River. This is the lesser-known yet larger counterpart of Machu Picchu, so you'll traverse a less-traveled trail along high Inca paths and camp in breathtaking Andean landscapes. Along the way, witness diverse ecosystems teeming with native flora and fauna, including the majestic Andean Condor. This is a Small-Group experience (maximum 12 people). Included are muleteers, porters, and a chef for a comfortable journey.

Day 1

This journey kicks off from your hotel in Cusco at around 4:30 am. You'll travel by private vehicle to the town of Cachora while admiring the distant Salkantay and Humantay glacier mountains. After breakfast in Cachora, you'll proceed to Capuliyoc to meet the team of cooks and muleteers, who'll carry your belongings.

The trek starts with a 3-hour descent to Chuiquisca, a charming hamlet with fruit fields. Throughout the trail, you'll see the impressive Apurimac Valley and the grand views of Padreyoc and Qoriwayrachina glaciers. With luck, you may watch condors flying in the distance. In the afternoon, you'll arrive at the warm, green campsite of Chiquisca, tucked away in arid mountains, where you'll enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 2

After energizing with breakfast, you'll resume the journey to Marampata. It'll start with a nearly 1-hour descent to Playa Rosalina, the valley's deepest part. Crossing a pedestrian bridge marks the start of the challenging part of the trek. For lunch, we'll stop at Santa Rosa and continue for about 3 hours with a zigzagging ascent to the Marampata camp. Once there, you can soak in the awe-inspiring scenery and capture breathtaking canyon views, boasting the deepest in the region. As the sun sets, enjoy the view of the Apurimac Valley and white glacial mountains bathed in soft orange light. Once darkness falls, a sky full of stars adorns the landscape as you dine and rest for the night.

Marampata- Choquequirao

Day 3

You'll have the whole day to explore this impressive Inca site. Choquequirao (3,050 m / 10,007 ft) is just 1 hour away from the campsite. Along with the guide, you'll go on a tour, hearing the stories about its past and construction. The site is nestled in one of South America's deepest canyons and is larger than Machu Picchu! It boasts plazas, temples, and remarkable platforms, leaving us in awe of the Incas' architectural prowess. A picnic lunch will offer time to rest and recharge. Don't miss the famous white stone llamas adorning the platforms —experts estimate only 40% of it is visible. As the day concludes, you'll return to the camp at Marampata for dinner and reflect on this extraordinary experience before bedtime.

Day 4

Today is to embark on the return journey from Choquequirao. You’ll have a final canyon view from Marampata before descending to Santa Rosa. It’ll be a 2- hour walk amid lush vegetation until the lunch spot. After that, you’ll refresh yourself on the cold water of the Apurimac River at Playa Rosalina. Then, ascend to Chiquisca camp, where a local family's home awaits. You’ll immerse yourself in the Andean customs and traditions, experiencing the profound connection between the communities and Pachamama, Mother Nature. After dinner, find peaceful rest in the camp of Chiquisca.

Day 5

We’ll set off early for the final day, avoiding the harsh sun but accompanied by the mighty river's roar. It’ll be a 4-hour hike to Capuliyoc. There, you’ll bid farewell to the trekking team and hop on private transport to visit the famous Saywite monolith—a sacred site filled with over 200 ancient figures deeply cherished by the Inca civilization. The journey back to Cusco will offer one last chance to relax at the Conoc hot springs before lunch. Throughout the final car drive, you’ll admire the glacial mountains that safely accompany you on the way. We’ll arrive around 6:00 pm and drop you off at the door of your accommodation.
