Oil wrestling, also known as Yağlı Güreş, is a traditional Turkish sport that has been practiced for centuries. The sport is known for its unique rituals and special clothes, which are only worn during the competition.
The competition takes place on a green grass field called the Er Meydanı. The wrestlers, known as pehlivan, cover their bodies with oil and try to defeat their opponents using various wrestling techniques.
Oil wrestling was recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The sport is an important part of Turkish culture and is celebrated throughout the country.
