The 2nd Tunnel was discovered on March 19, 1975, in an area 13km north of Cheorwon within the DMZ.
The tunnel has a width of 2.1m, a height of 2m, and a length of 3.5km. It is located between 50 and 160m (160 and 520ft) below ground.
The tunnel is capable of accommodating approximately 30,000 armed troops, who could infiltrate through the tunnel in an hour with vehicles, artillery pieces, and even tanks.
The tunnel is currently available for exploration, with a length of 500m accessible to the public.
The area surrounding the tunnel is a UNESCO Global Geopark, featuring unique geological formations, including columnar jointing.
The geopark has a length of 3.6km and a width of 1.5m, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
