Kleifarvatn Lake
Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The lake currently spans some 8 km2 and reaches a depth of 97 meters. This makes Kleifarvatn the seventh deepest lake in Iceland. After a powerful earthquake in the year 2000 the lake has reduced in size of about 20% since then.

The warm waters are rich of silica minerals and bathing in the Blue Lagoon is reputed to help people suffering from skin diseases. The water temperature in the bathing area of the lagoon averages 37-39 °C. The lagoon is fed by the water output from Svartsengi, a nearby geothermal power plant. The water is fed into the lagoon for recreational and medicinal bathing. The spa is located in a lava field near Grindavik on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland.
