What you'll do

The only place in the world to experience glowworms in the heart of a city!

Discover the magic of New Zealand’s glowworms without leaving Auckland. This unique 1-hour guided experience takes you into Pukekawa, a 100,000-year-old Pleistocene-era volcanic landscape and one of Auckland’s oldest parks, where glowworms light up the surrounding native bush.

Enjoy an intimate encounter with these fascinating bioluminescent creatures in their natural environment. Away from crowded tourist attractions, you’ll have the opportunity to observe glowworms at close range, take photographs, and enjoy a peaceful evening immersed in Auckland’s ancient landscape.

As you explore, your guide will share fascinating stories about glowworm biology, behaviour, and life cycles, while introducing you to the area’s volcanic geology, native vegetation, hidden waterfalls, and rich natural and cultural history.

This experience is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, families, couples, and travellers looking for something genuinely unique to do in Auckland. Conveniently located in the heart of the city, it offers a rare opportunity to experience New Zealand wildlife and natural wonder without travelling to remote cave systems.

Unlike traditional glowworm caves, this experience takes place in an open natural environment. The glowworm population is naturally smaller than in dedicated cave systems, but the setting offers a more intimate and peaceful encounter, with unobstructed viewing and opportunities to photograph these remarkable creatures in their natural surroundings.
