Cat Ba National Park covers an area of 15,200 hectares, including 9,800 hectares of forest and 5,400 hectares of sea surface. The park is divided into two main areas: the strict protection area of 800 hectares, which is the primary forest, and the ecological restoration area of 14,000 hectares.

The park is home to a diverse range of ecosystems, including limestone forest ecosystems, wet highland ecosystems, mangrove ecosystems, marine ecosystems with inshore reefs, and cave systems with distinctive habitat for bats.
