About

  • You’ll see the city, learn about our heritage, and experience the wild peninsula all in one comfortable and interesting tour. Our guide will commentate throughout the journey, and there’s plenty of time to chat and ask as many questions as you like. The Otago Peninsula Eco Tour is included in the price, along with entry to the Larnach Castle gardens. Tours inside the castle are not included.
  • Dunedin is an ecotourism hub, and we have different attractions for all ages. On our Otago Peninsula tours from Dunedin, you will be able to access all the attractions and explore as much or as little as you like. We’ll also make sure you have plenty of opportunities to photograph the wildlife and scenery.

What you'll do

This is an approximately 6.5-hour tour of Dunedin city and the Otago Peninsula. Included is entry into Larnach Castle gardens, where there is a cafe. Also included is a 1.5-hour tour of the Opera Eco reserve. Excluded are the tour inside Larnach Castle and any food or refreshments

We can collect/drop you off at your accommodation, cruise ship, or the information centre in the Octagon!

Please be ready 15 minutes before departure. Cruise ship guests should look for a large Tourworks sign inside the cruise ship terminal. Please do NOT leave the terminal or get the bus into town.

Visit New Zealand's only castle. Garden entry cost is included. Have lunch or light refreshments (at your own cost) in the Ballroom cafe and explore the very extensive gardens. (The 1-hour self-guided tour inside the castle is not included)

The Opera (Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance)

Stop: 1 hour 30 minutes ·Admission includedThe admission fee is included in the tour package at no extra cost.
You will get to explore:
See penguins up close in the rehab centre (when penguins are present). Take an approximately 1 hour walk through the reserve to view various wildlife and great views of the rugged East coast. An extensive commentary on what the Opera people do to try to help the endangered Yellow Eyed penguins and various othe wild life.

Learn about the endangered yellow-eyed penguins, visit the Penguin Rehabilitation Centre (when penguins are present), and experience a guided tour through the reserve, which is home to numerous native plants and animals. (Please note there is approximately 1.5 kilometres of walking on this tour up and down steps and uneven ground. This tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or disabled people. A moderate degree of fitness is required)

You will get to explore:
There is a chance you may see these magnificent birds in flight. Also there is gift shopping available here.

Visit Taiaroa Head, home of the Royal Albatross. There is a chance you may see these magnificent birds in flight. Explore the visitor centre, where you can learn more about the colony — and you might spot an albatross soaring overhead if conditions are right. (This stop is dependent on time available)
