What you'll do
Topkapi Palace was the main residence of the sultan and his court. Initially, it was the seat of government as well as the imperial residence. Although access was strictly regulated, inhabitants of the palace rarely had to venture out, as the palace functioned almost as an autonomous entity, a city within a city. The palace was also home to various audience and consultation chambers and areas, which served as the political hub of the empire. Finally, no visit to Istanbul would be complete without a visit to the Grand Bazaar, one of the world's largest and oldest covered markets. Wander through its vibrant stalls, soaking in the sights, sounds, and scents of this lively marketplace. Take the opportunity to shop for unique souvenirs or simply enjoy the buzzing ambiance.
