What you'll do

Depart Edinburgh for a day of dramatic Highland scenery, famous filming locations and Highland history, including the Glenfinnan Viaduct, known as the Harry Potter bridge, and a meeting with the Hairy Coos.

Our first stop is Callander, where you can browse the shops and grab a bite to eat as we enter Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, with lochs and mountains all around.

Cross the vast Rannoch Moor, Britain’s largest moorland, and arrive in Glencoe. Learn about the ancient super volcano that formed the Three Sisters mountains and the tragic Massacre of Glencoe. Harry Potter fans may recognise the peaks from the final battle scenes in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Stop for lunch in Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the Highlands, beneath Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. Stroll along the shores of Loch Linnhe, explore the remains of the old army barracks or enjoy a meal at one of the local cafes.

Walk to the viewpoint for the 21-arch Glenfinnan Viaduct and watch the Jacobite Steam Train, the real-life Hogwarts Express, cross. You can also explore the shores of Loch Shiel and visit the Glenfinnan Monument, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745.

On the journey back, travel through the Cairngorms, Scotland’s largest national park, before meeting some Highland Cows, or “Hairy Coos”, up close for a few iconic photos.

*The Jacobite Steam Train is operated by a separate company and runs seasonally until October 2026. We cannot guarantee it will run or be on time, but the viaduct can be visited on any day.

Host since 2006
Highland Experience Tours began with a simple belief: the best way to know Scotland is to step off the main road and into the landscapes that shaped it. Founded by people who grew up among the glens, lochs, and mountain passes, the company set out to share the Highlands as locals know them, beyond the usual postcard viewpoints. Every journey is built around genuine exploration, with time to wander ancient battlefields and castles and listen to tales of clans and castles. What sets Highland Experience Tours apart is our guides behind the wheel and the stories they tell. Whether you're tracing the road to Glencoe, travelling the western isles, or exploring ancient castles, we aim to leave you with more than photographs. We want you to leave with a real connection to the Highlands and the feeling that you've discovered something special.
