What you'll do

Join our small-group day tour from Inverness to explore some of the most iconic places in the Highlands, from the mysterious waters of Loch Ness to Eilean Donan Castle and the wild beauty of the Isle of Skye.

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle

Travel along the shores of Loch Ness, Scotland’s most famous loch and home of the legendary Nessie, with photo stops and views of Urquhart Castle on the water’s edge. Your guide shares the myths and real stories behind this world-famous location.

Heading west, drive through dramatic Glen Shiel beneath the Five Sisters of Kintail, a mountain range steeped in clan history and legendary battles.

Stop at Eilean Donan Castle*, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, set on a small island where three sea lochs meet. Step inside with optional paid entry, or enjoy the views and photographs from outside.

Cross the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Skye, looking out for coastal wildlife and sweeping sea views. See the Cuillin Hills and rugged coastlines before stopping for lunch in the colourful harbour town of Portree, where you can eat, browse the shops or admire the bay.

Explore the spectacular landscapes of northern Skye, including:

Old Man of Storr: Skye’s most famous rock formation

Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls: dramatic cliffs and a waterfall plunging into the sea

The Quiraing: a surreal landscape shaped by ancient landslips

Before leaving Skye, stop at the Sligachan River, where legend says washing your face in the icy water brings eternal youth and beauty. Brave enough to try? We then return via part of the North Coast 500, passing Loch Carron and the Black Isle before crossing the Kessock Bridge back into Inverness.

*Castle entry is an optional extra.

Host since 2006
Highland Experience Tours began with a simple belief: the best way to know Scotland is to step off the main road and into the landscapes that shaped it. Founded by people who grew up among the glens, lochs, and mountain passes, the company set out to share the Highlands as locals know them, beyond the usual postcard viewpoints. Every journey is built around genuine exploration, with time to wander ancient battlefields and castles and listen to tales of clans and castles. What sets Highland Experience Tours apart is our guides behind the wheel and the stories they tell. Whether you're tracing the road to Glencoe, travelling the western isles, or exploring ancient castles, we aim to leave you with more than photographs. We want you to leave with a real connection to the Highlands and the feeling that you've discovered something special.
