Overview

What you'll do

The Forbidden Purple City is a place of great significance. Its name is a testament to its mysterious and alluring nature. The city is a place of wonder, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred. It is a place where the imagination knows no bounds, and where the beauty and magic of the world are on full display.

Tour Highlight

The Purple City, located in the Citadel of Hue, was built during the Emperor Gia Long dynasty in the 19th century. Established as the capital of unified Vietnam in 1802, Hue became the political, cultural and religious centre of the nation under the Nguyen dynasty until 1945. The city suffered damage during the Tet offensive of 1968, and was later declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Tu Duc, Vietnam's fourth emperor, lived from 1829 to 1883, during which time he is said to have had 104 concubines. During his reign, Vietnam lost its independence to France. King Khai Dinh, Emperor from 1916 to 1925, is immortalised in his tomb, which offers a glimpse into Vietnam’s imperial history.
